DUNDALK - A resident of Corbetton for the past 62 years, Mrs. John Frederick Stewart, died Sunday night in the Centre Grey Hospital, Markdale, following an illness of two months. She was 86.
Born in Melancthon township, Oct. 17, 1873, Mrs. Stewart was the former Charlotte Boles, daughter of the late Richard and Mary Ann Hunking Boles. Mrs. Stewart had resided in Dufferin County all her life and for the past 62 years had made her home at Corbetton. In 1898 she married John F. Stewart, who predeceased her in March 1929. She was the last surviving member of a family of 12 children.
Surviving are five sons, John, Toronto, George, Hamilton, William, Dundalk, Alexander and Donald, both of Corbetton, three daughters, Violet, Mrs. Harold White, Annie, Mrs. Milton Dickson, both of Hamilton, and Alice, Mrs. George McLaren, Corbetton. Nineteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive.
The late Mrs. Stewart was a member of Corbetton United Church for many years." [newspaper clipping, March 1960]

One of the pioneers of Melancthon Township, passed peacefully away on Sunday, March 6th, 1960, in Markdale Hospital, in the person of John lotte Ann Boles, widow of John Frederick Stewart, in her 87th year. Deceased was born in Melancthon, and spent her entire life in Dufferin County, The past 62 years at her late home near Corbetton.
A daughter of the late Richard and Mary Ann (Hunking) Boles, she was predeceased by her husband on March 4th, 1929; also by five brothers and six sisters, twin brothers and one sister, in infancy -- Mary, Richard and Agnes -- within one week when the Black Diptheria took its toll in the early 1880's; Sophia (Mrs. Jim Sanderson) in 1896, ged 24; William J., in 1901, aged 26; Robert L., in 1913, aged 34; Edna (Mrs. Robert Elliott) in 1920, aged 28, and Belle (Mrs. Dougal Stewart) in 1925, aged 40.
She was a member of Corbetton United Church, and a life member of the Women's Institute. She was a faithful wife, loving mother and a good neighbor. Although a wheel chair patient for the past 10 years and almost blind, she was never heard to complain, and bore her infirmities with christian fortitude.
Left to mourn her loss are five sons and three daughters: John, of Toronto; (Violet) Mrs. Harold White, (Annie) Mrs. Hilton Dickson, and George, all of Hamilton; William J. , of Dundalk; (Alice) Mrs. George McLaren, Sandy and Donald, of Corbetton. One daughter Luella, predeceased her in 1912 at the tender age of 11 months. There are also 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral, which was largely attended, was held on March 9th from the McMillan Funeral Home in Dundalk to Shelburne Mortuary Chapel. The service was conducted by Mr. W. J. Stewart, of Corbetton United Church, who took his sermon from Mrs. Stewart's favorite scripture passage, the 23rd Psalm. A solo, "At the End of the Road," was very beautifully sung by Mr. Almer Allen, accompanied by Mrs. John Dolmer, who also played soft music before and after the service. Two favourite hymns, "Rock of Ages," and "Forever With the Lord," were read by the minister.
Honorary pallbearers were friends and former neighbors, Gordon Sherritt, Edgar Fines, George Merkley, Ralph Arnold, John A. McMillan and Bert Henderson. Active pallbearers were grandsons - Kenneth, Wilbert and McKinley McLaren, William, Harvey and Floyd White.
The floral tributes wre numerous and were carried by grand-children, Betty and Billie Dickson, Beverley, Judy and Carol Stewart, Delmar and Laureen McLaren, Pearl White, Muriel Nevilles and Blanche Connor.
