Elizabeth Jane Owens was born circa 1851 in Manvers, Manvers Township Victoria County, Ontario, Canada. She immigrated on 1 April 1884 to Saskatchewan, Canada at NW 16-8-4-W2.51 SCARROW, Willard and Elizabeth
Willard Scarrow was born at Garafio, Ont., on Feb. 10, 1842. He married Elizabeth Jane Owen in the fall of 1870.
Willard came west in early May, 1882. During that year and part of 1883, he constructed a log house and barn. Then in the late fall or early winter, he returned to Ontario, planning to return in the spring with his family.
While home, he made arrangements to pack a "Settlers Effects Car" for shipment. Then he brought the family back, after disposing of the lands, extra goods and chattels which he could not bring along. The railroad had been extended to Moosomin, where they unloaded their possessions. Now they had seventy-five miles to travel with team and wagon. They started out with two cows, four pigs, son John and sister Bella, walking behind the wagon. The rest of the family, their possessions and two new born calves were loaded in the wagon. It took them four days to reach this area, arriving here April 1, 1884.
The homestead was registered in 1887, the NW 16-8-4-W2. When coming west, two other men, Bob and Jim Kerr, arrived at the same time. These were among the first white men south of the Moose Mountains.
Willard was an active churchman, his activities in that direction not being hindered by the lack of an edifice or organized church. As more settlers came to the district, he threw the doors of his home open and welcomed those who desired to participate in public worship. In this humble manner the foundation of the spiritual work of this district was laid. He continued his faithful service in an official capacity with the Methodist Church for many years.
In later life, they retired to the town of Arcola. Mrs. Scarrow passed away Feb. 26,1927. Willard passed away March 23, 1935. Both are buried in Arcola Cemetery.
