"MRS. WM. STEWART PASSES ON FRIDAY IN HER 82ND YEAR
Mrs. William Stewart, a native of Sydenham Township and a life-long resident of this district, died on Friday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter J. Welsh, R.R. 1, Owen Sound. The late Mrs. Stewart was in her 82nd year, but in spite of her advanced aged had enjoyed good health and her death will come as a great shock to her many friends.
The late Mrs. Stewart, whose maiden name was Mary Madeline Ramsay was a daughter of the late Maxwell and Juliann Ostrander Ramsay and was born in Sydenham Township on Nov. 20, 1869. On Dec. 28, 1887, she was united in marriage to William Stewart, a stone-mason by trade. In 1924 they moved to Owen Sound and the late Mrs. Stewart resided in this city until the death of her husband in 1935. Since that time she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Welsh.
Surviving to mourn her passing the late Mrs. Stewart leaves two sons, Ernest and Fred, both of Owen Sound, and three daughters, May, Mrs. T. N. Hartley of Markdale, Mary, Mrs. Walter J. Welsh R.R. 1, Owen Sound, and Mrs. Julia McGregor of Sydenham Township. There are 29 grandchilren. The late Mrs. Stewart is also survived by one sister, Marthena, Mrs. Charles Wagner of Vancouver. She was predeceased by three brothers, William, James and Joseph Ramsay; three sisters, Julia, Mrs. George Swain, Harriet, Mrs. George Watson, and Martha, Mrs. Robert Govett; two half-sisters, Mrs. Barbara Tucker and Mrs. Annie Nish; and one half-brother, John Ramsay.
