The funeral of the late Alexander Cameron one of Owen Sounds oldest residents was held on thursday afternoon from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Brady, 631 2nd avenue east, to Leith Cemetery. Rev. P>T. Pilkey, pastor of Knox Presbyterian Church, conducted the funeral service at 2:30 o'clock and he was assisted by Rev. M.S. Elliott, pastor of Union Church, Owen Sound.
The funeral was large and the floral tributes were many and very beautiful. The pall-bearers were Messrs. David Marshall of Owen Sound, Mr. Daniel Graham, Owen Sound, Mr. J. C. McMillan of Meaford; Mr. Charles A. McMillan of Collingwood; Mr. John McLeod of Owen Sound and Mr. Alex. C. McMillan of Collingwood.
The late Mr. Cameron was born near Collingwood 95 years ago and he came to Owen Sound in the city's eariest days. Practically all is life he has been a resident of Owen Sound or the immediate vicinity and in his passing the city loses one of its earliest pioneers.Up to the last his faculties remained unimpaired in spite of his decline in health due to old age. He remembered well many of the incidents connected with the early life of the present market square. Most of Mr. Cameron's early associates have passed away before him but those with whom he was acquanted, regret deeply his passing which occurred peacefully.
A family of eight children survive to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father. Mrs. Harriet Johnston of Toronto and the remainder in Owen Sound.Mrs. M. Brady, Mrs. Christina Carvell, Mrs. Isabella McMillan; John, Angus, Daniel and Neil. To them the sympathy of a large number of friends goes out in their bereavement.
