It was transcribed as Kinney, S? but if you go to the proof pages it clearly says George E. I have sent a correction. George died on 18 February 1940 in Berkley, Ontario, Canada. Mr. George Kinney passed away at his home near Berkeley on Sunday following a brief illness. The deceased had spent most of his life in this neighbourhood, having resided at Harkaway before moving to Berkeley. The late Mr. Kinney was born on Cape Breton Island in 1864 and came with the family to Harkaway in 1879. There he grew to manhood. He is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Margaret Sowerby, and one sister; Mrs. James Rodman, at Harkaway. A brother, William Kinney passed away on December 13, 1939." The 1901 census also lists his place of birth as the United States. He also gives his ethnic origins as Scotch, while his brother William, lists his as Irish. In the 1901 census George's residence is given as concession 11, lot 19 Holland township , living with his mother. The following notice of William's death appeared in the Markdale Standard. "The sudden passing on Wednesday of William White Kinney, a well-known and highly respected farmer of this community, came as a shock to his many friends and acquaintances, many of whom who had not heard of his illness. Mr. Kinney, who was in his 79th year, had been in failing health of late. He contracted a cold less than two weeks ago, but was not really ill though quite poorly until Sunday when he suffered a heart atack. About midnight on Monday he passed into a state of coma from which he did not revive before passing away on Wesnesday afternoon. The late Mr. Kinney was born April 4, 1861, on Cape Breton Island, and came here at the age of 18. His father Asa Kinney had come previously, to this locality. He was a cooper and worked at his trade here for a time. Later his wife and other members of the family followed and they eventually purchased a farm at Harkaway, where they lived for many years. On February 23, 1887, the deceased was married to Miss Agnes Bell Rae of Harkaway. They purchased a farm on the West Back Line, some three miles from Markdale. After moving to Markdale in 1923, Mrs. Kinney passed away, December 16, 1924. Mr. Kinney went to live with his youngest daughter, Margaret, where he lived until his passing. Surviving are a son, George, of Markdale, and two daughters, Mrs. Ben Sewell, Addie, and Mrs. John Teeter, Margaret, of this community. His elder son, Herbert, passed away in 1925. William and his two sons cleared the timber off approximately 20 acres. An adjoining 50 acres was purchased from J.B. Thibaudeau making a total of 150 acres.
